New Elle Bowl

Found this pretty Elle bowl today, along with a big Elle mixing bowl that was more than I wanted to spend!

The bottom is marked 703/R21.

Rorstrand Polka

We recently found this Rörstrand Polka dish. Love that the design is like looking down on this group's dinner table.

More bits of Christmas

More pictures of Christmas before it's all taken down for the season.  We found several little wooden guys this year that were fun.  The two wooden guys are from Silas Tonttukylä in Finland.  The Christmas balls are from Crate and Barrell and are Sanna Annukka's Taikamylly pattern, which is the same as the tablecloth in the last picture.  The ceramic tomte is made by Nittsjö, and might be designed by Rolf Berg (he has done other designs for Nittsjö that are very similar to this).

Porsgrund Bowl

A Porsgrund bowl at my parent's house, filled with saltwater taffy.  According to the Porsgrund website, the pattern is called Maxistrå (Big Straw).

Elle Square Bowl

A square bowl by Elle.  The shape number is 658, and the decoration number is M3.

Graverens Bowl

This little Graverens bowl belonged to my grandma.  I love the notch in the glaze on the rim - I'm guessing it's the result of the glaze dripping/running while it was fired, although it's funny to think that maybe the glazer had a hiccup while working on it.  This one has a Graverens sticker on the bottom, and the shape and pattern numbers: 960/489.  And, like so many of the pieces from this pottery (as well as Elle), it has a chip.  There's something about the clay that they used - if you even look at it sideways, it'll chip!  That's just the sign of a well-loved bowl, though.

Stavangerflint Bowl

Getting my blogging mojo back with this sweet little Stavangerflint bowl with children playing in a hay wagon.  I don't know the pattern name or the artist, although I would guess it is Inger Waage and it looks like it was part of a children's line.

Dansk Staved Teak Bowl

Staved teak bowl by Dansk and designed by Jens Harald Quistgaard.  I love how the shape of the bowl looks like a letter "O."

Elle Bowl

I love the deep blue glaze on this one.  The mark on the bottom of this bowl is different than most of mine - it looks like it was put on with a wax-resist method instead of painted on.  I believe it was designed by Birgette Skyttern based on "BS39."  The shape is 703B - I have round bowls that are shape 703, so I'm guessing this is just one of those but they squished the sides in to make it triangular and added the B to the number.

Figgjo Flint - Rhubarb Sauce

I made the Grilled Rhubarb Vanilla Honey Sauce as a topping for ice cream for a Memorial Day picnic at my parent's house - the rhubarb is from their garden.  The recipe is from the My New Roots blog (slightly altered by me with the addition of some strawberries, which I also grilled).  Served in a newer Figgjo Flint bowl that I got for my birthday last year.

Elle Bowl

There is something about the design on this bowl that reminds me of a Ukrainian egg, even though it is all black and white.

Today is Mother's Day in the US, and I've made a banana cream pie for dessert with my parents.

Figgjo Flint Norge Bowl

We went antiquing today and this was the only result, but it was a good one!  We hardly ever find this Norge pattern by Figgjo Flint, and love it. The bowl has three "sides," one with a woman and goat, one with a woman churning butter, and one with a man planting seed.

I love the little storage house, too.

Graverens Bird Bowl

The same three-footed bowl as yesterday, but with a bird design.  None of the numbers on the bottom of the two bowls match, so they apparently aren't related to the shape.

Graverens Fruit Bowl

Graverens started out as a brick-making factory in Sandnes in 1852 and started making art pottery in 1926.  They closed in 1982. (This is all based on a google translation of an article in Norwegian, so let me know if I'm way off!)

1967 Porsgrund Bowl

This bowl, dated 1967, belonged to my grandma.  It has great vibrant colors that would be at home with many of the traditional Mediterranean ceramics.  I don't know the pattern name, but it is similar to the Telemark pattern, which is apparently exclusive to the US market (and our local Scandinavian shop says it's being discontinued).

Porsgrund Compote

This old Porsgrund footed bowl was an antique show find.

Hand Made in Norway

Another mystery piece with markings similar to the Elle pottery pieces, this is a small square bowl on a pedestal base.

Mystery Kjenge

I don't know who made this or how old it is.  One side of it says "Hilsen fra Lohals" ("Greetings from Lohals," which is in Denmark).  The bottom has the incised number 3467 and a symbol that looks like TP, or maybe just P. Any ideas?

Figgjo Flint Saga Bowl

My partner is in love with the Saga line, and it has become a collecting obsession. The outside of this large bowl has a repeating design of two ladies and flowers, while the inside rim has a stylized leaf/flower border. There is a great deal of variation in the Saga line, from different figures, flowers, and colors - I assume the line evolved over the years, but I don't know the years that can be attributed to the various styles. The Figgjo Flint factory and store in Figgjo, Norway had a book on the company history that we sadly didn't buy....

Elle Pottery Bowl

This pottery bowl by the Elle studio on Norway belonged to my grandma.  I do actually use these bowls, too - this one occasionally holds herring.

The marks on the base are different from my previous Elle posts.  Some day I will post pictures of all of the marks on my pieces...
