Fall into Winter
The end of the year certainly has a lot going on! Between Thanksgiving and Christmas and New Year's, the mundane parts of life seem to have taken over. I'm also starting to wonder if my focus here on ceramics is too limiting, and if that's why my updates here have been so sparse of late. As I look around my house, I realize there are Scandinavian influences everywhere - so, I think in the new year I'm going to start sharing a little bit more than just ceramics (well, I'm going to make it official...I've already had a few non-pottery posts).
About these pictures: We used a few different Dansk candleholders for the first time - the brass candlesticks in early December, and the taper crown for Christmas dinner.
We also completed our collection of Lisa Larson Advent candleholders. The marks on the bases are not all the same: the boys have the original Gustavsberg marks, but the girls are marked Rörstrand.
Christmas Eve dinner was at my parents' house on their lovely Porsgrund Hearts and Pines.

Lisa Larson Fox
Look at this cute little guy! A Lisa Larson fox from her Lilla Zoo line. The bottom has the Lisa Larson sticker, Gustavsberg sticker, and a mystery sticker that's probably just from the store where it was sold, or maybe from a previous owner.

Lisa Larson Lillskansen Fox
A little fox we found at an antique store. Designed by Lisa Larson for Gustavsberg and part of the Lillskansen line - this one is marked with the number 4 on the bottom and is the smaller of the two foxes. The Lillskansen line was introduced in 1978.

Lisa Larson Cat
One of the cats designed by Lisa Larson for Gustavsberg in Sweden. There is quite a bit of variation on these cats, and sometimes it can be a challenge to find one with a cute face - I think we did alright with this one...

Lisa Larson Tomte
My mom's Lisa Larson tomte (or would it be nisse?). The picture of the base is delightfully blurry...but it says Lisa L, K-Studion, Gustavsberg, Sweden.

Lisa Larson Lion
I gave this to my partner for Christmas. The bottom is unmarked, but I have seen others that are stamped in the clay "L Larson Gustavsberg" and/or with a Gustavsberg sticker.

Lisa Larson Tomte
This was a gift from my mom. We had him for several years before we really became aware of (and obsessed with collecting) Lisa Larson.

Viking Invaders
Some of my Viking collection. Most of them are by Rolf Berg from Sweden, and there are also Vikings by Maigon Daga, Upsala Ekeby, Lindshammar, and Lisa Larson.

Lisa Larson Viking Ship Plaque
This is a unique commemorative Viking ship plaque was produced by Gustavsberg in the late 1960s/early 1970s and created by Lisa Larson. The top of the sail has "Handelsflottans Välfärdsråd" stamped in the clay, which roughly translates to "Merchant Navy Welfare Board." The back has a sticker with the same text, the incised "Lisa L Gustavsberg" stamp, and a hand-written note: "Idrottsveckan för sjöfolk i Lissabon," which roughly translates to "Sports Week for Seafarers in Lisbon," with the dates April 12 - April 18, 1970.

Lisa Larson Lilla Zoo Cat
Monty investigates his doppelgänger. The Lilla Zoo cat is marked only with an impressed "B" on the underside. Other pieces may have a Gustavsberg or Lisa Larson sticker.

Lisa Larson Viking Ship Tiles
We found another Viking ship tile by Lisa Larson for Gustavsberg, mislabeled in the auction as a trivet (I can't imagine using it as a trivet!) and with her name misspelled. My first one is on the left, my new one on the right. I have seen other versions of this tile online that have different designs on the shields, but these two match - although the glaze on the sail is different.
The mark on my previous post was just "Lisa L."
The mark on my second tile includes "Gustavsberg."
The backs are plain. The first tile was clearly hung on a wall, though, and has lots of scratches from the nail.

Lisa Larson Odin - Friday Fun
Lisa Larson designed at least two Viking figures for K Studion in Gufsavsberg, Sweden. This one is Odin, with his one eye and ravens. The wooden viking ship behind him was carved by my grandpa when he was little.
