Elle Pottery Bowl

This pottery bowl by the Elle studio on Norway belonged to my grandma.  I do actually use these bowls, too - this one occasionally holds herring.

The marks on the base are different from my previous Elle posts.  Some day I will post pictures of all of the marks on my pieces...

  1. Just thought I'd pop in to say thanks for this post... I found an Elle bowl today (not knowing what it was), brought it home, typed "Norwegian pottery marks elle" into Google image search, and up popped the picture you posted! You've made my day so much easier... I'm a vintage seller on Etsy (I'm particularly fond of Scandinavian pottery - my shop is called "pillowsophi", in case you're interested), but I'm new at it and often spend ages trying to find out more about the items I'm selling.

Your blog is fantastic; I look forward to following it from now on!

  2. Thank you for your post. I was just searching google and stumbled upon your pos.

My mother passed this past summer at the age of 94. Her parents were norwegian and our family has always maintained strong ties to the homeland. We traveled extensively to the homeland and have several old ceramics, including a different pattern of elle ceramics. We have a set of eight salad bowls, all with similar markings (numbers 703/j4). Part of your pattern is included in this pattern design. these are beautiful and classic pieces.

Thanks for providing the Elle information. If you have another reference material, would love to review its content.

    Best!
