We found this little Viking yesterday. He was designed by Elsi Bourelius, and made by Jie Gantofta of Sweden.

Iittala Romantica
We stumbled on this Iittala pattern on etsy and love them! They were designed in 1963 by Tapio Wirkkala and manufactured from 1963-1972. We have two sizes now - this one is about 4 inches across and holds about 5 ounces; we also have smaller ones that hold about 3 ounces. This might be one of my favorite Iittala designs!

More Space
With an expanding collection comes the need for more space. We finally finished installing a shelf above the windows in our kitchen eating area, and hung the rest of the scando goat fabric as a valance. In addition to the Figgjo Saga pieces here, there is an old Stavangerflint pitcher with some peacock-like birds. Outside the photo are our Dansk teak ice buckets and some coffee sets from Figgjo, Dansk and Stavangerflint.

Odin and Tor
We just got the Odin - now we just need Frøya! These are carved by Henning of Norway. The Tor is older and has a much rougher carving style, which I like. The base of it is marked with two stamps that read "Carved by hand in Norway". The newer Odin is marked "Henning Carved by hand in Norway".

Otto Sveen Trolls
We figured out who the artist was who carved our old lady troll, and then found this guy. He doesn't have the OS signature on the bottom, but we're pretty sure it's also by Otto Sveen. Otto's brother Anton was also a wood carver, but we don't think this is one of his.

Stogo Viking
This was an impulsive eBay buy - I didn't know anything about Stogo, but thought he was pretty fun. He looks like he would be a bobble-head, but the head is fixed to the base. A few quick googles showed that Stogo made a lot of dish ware in the 1960s. The bottom is marked with the company name an Denmark.

Stolt Margit
We finally found the last Stolt Margit plate that we need. The line was designed by Anne Lofthus for Stavangerflint.

Magisso Teacup
I've been eyeing this teacup for a while now and finally bought it last week from Finnstyle in Minneapolis. You put loose tea in the mesh "shelf" and tilt the cup towards it to brew the tea; then you tilt it the other way to stop the brewing and drink. It actually works great! And it's a fun, stylish, and practical design - it has it all.
It was designed by Vesa Jääskö and Laura Bougdanos.

Iittala Essence Coupes
I have wanted a set of coupe glasses for years, but it has been hard finding the perfect ones. I saw that Iittala came out with a coupe a while back and, combined with our new cocktail book, it was finally time to get them.

Royal Copenhagen Vase
Designed by Kari Christensen and part of the Tenera line, and from the late 1960s. I have seen other examples of this vase with the Aluminia mark on the bottom, but this has the Royal Copenhagen mark, so I assume it's a bit later production.

Bargain Polka
I love it when eBay sellers don't do their homework! This was posted as "Rorffrand" and I think I got a deal. The pattern is Polka. The designer is Carl Harry Stålhane.

Figgjo Fajanse AS Plaque
This just arrived from Tokyo via eBay - always a relief when something arrives in one piece after a long journey! I love sign pieces that have the company name as the main decoration instead of just being the mark on the back.

Digsmed Lazy Susan Tray
I gave this Digsmed lazy susan tray to my partner for Christmas. There are eight small glass dishes, each marked "Made in Denmark," that rest on a tray that spins while the top platform stays stationary.
The candlesticks are German, by Goberg.

Iittala Alvar Aalto Vase
Some much-needed spring. Iittala vase designed by Alvar Aalto in 1937, which I still find amazing because it is remains so modern!

Stelton Erik Magnussen Carafe
My mom has had one of these thermal carafe's for years, and this year she gave one to us for Christmas! It's produced by Stelton of Denmark, and the designer is Erik Magnussen. It has such a simple design, but with great little details, like the curve of the handle. And the stopper on the top is perfect - no turning to figure out if it's open or not. It has a counterweight, so that as soon as you pour, it opens.

More Christmas before it's boxed away
The Christmas tree came down this weekend and is now at the curb. Here are a few more pictures of Christmas to tide us over until next year.
The tomte is by Rolf Berg from Sweden. The blue and white ball is a Royal Copenhagen ornament.

Arne Ingdam Bear
This big Arne Ingdam bear arrived in the mail today to join its smaller friend.
Arne Ingdam was born in 1922 and trained at Royal Copenhagen under Knud Kyhn, but produced work from his own workshop in Rågeleje, Nordsjælland and sold most of his work through the Magasin du Nord department stores.

Norway and Finland
Some more Christmas: Hadeland glass nissen and tree, glass ornaments with the Taika pattern by Iittala, and an embroidered linen from Norway with dompapen on it. (I love those little bullfinches, and apparently they can be kept as pets... but I don't think the cats would appreciate just looking at them.)
